UETDREL006 Working safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker

This course is the minimum qualification any person needs to safely work near overhead powerlines.
This course offers a combination of theory and practical training to teach or re-accredit participants with the necessary knowledge and skills required to safely work near overhead powerlines for relevant state and territory regulatory authorities. The course results in the achievement of a Statement of Attainment for Nationally Accredited Course Code:

Course Outline

This course will enhance the knowledge and skills of participants who are required to operate or observe the operation of plant, hand held tools, cranes and their loads in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus.

 

Course content summary
  • Understand relevant legislation

  • Basic principles of electricity and understanding of the power system

  • Safe Approach Distances (SAD)

  • Preparation to work near overhead powerlines

  • Safely carry out work near overhead powerlines

  • Complete work near overhead powerlines

  • Understand risks and control measures

  • Incident response including CPR and use of a defibrillator

 

Duration

Full day course commencing 8.30am. Includes theory work and practical demonstrations.

 

Pre-requisite

If participating in this course for the first time you are required to compete a pre-course workbook prior to attending the training. If the workbook has not been completed in full you will not be allowed to participate in the training.

For those refreshing an existing certificate: 1 day of training – no pre-course workbook is required, but you must provide a copy of your existing certificate prior to, or on the day of the course.

What to bring to the course

  • Completed Pre-course Workbook including Definitions page (or copy of existing certificate)

  • Comfortable clothing (preferably workwear)

  • Enclosed shoes (preferably work boots)

  • Blue or Black pen
